NSF 2010 Ranking: 57th (total R&D expenditures in life sciences) =$207,115,000 [1]

NIH 2011 Ranking: 73rd (Direct plus indirect costs but excluding R & D contracts and ARRA awards) = $78,186,864 [2]

The University of Texas, San Antonio has had a 34 percent increase in research funding over last year, and also UTSA received more than $203 million in external funding. [3]

Specific grants include a $26 million Clinical and Translational Science Award to move research from laboratory findings to clinical trials, a $33 million grant to enhance treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder, and a $33 million National Children’s Study designation to examine genetic and environmental impacts on children.

The University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio is home to an international clinical trial on strokes, a first–of–its–kind study, founded by a $37 million public grant that is the largest in the UT Health Science Center’s history. [4]

The University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio has an $11.6 million, five year contract with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, for a specific blood test to diagnose heart failure in attack survivors. [5]

The UT Health Science Center, San Antonio Dental School received several five-year grants totaling more than $6.5 million in grants from the Health Resources and Services Administration. [6]

The USAA Foundation recently gave a $3 million grant to neurosciences research at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, which is already a leader in this far-reaching area of study. [7]

The University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio received a $5 million state cancer grant over three years to continue its research into various aspects of cancer. [8]

University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio researchers Cynthia Mojica, assistant professor of epidemiology and biostatistics, and Gail Tomlinson, interim director of the Greehey Children’s Cancer Research Institute, were awarded a total of $4.7 million by the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas to develop cancer prevention programs. [9]

The University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio received a $1 million grant from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas to help researchers develop new cancer-fighting drugs. [10]

The University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio recently received $755,718 from the Cancer Prevention & Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) to study how to overcome drug resistance in deadly central nervous system tumors called glioblastomas. [11]

The University of Texas Health Science Center recently expanded the Lions Low Vision Rehabilitation Center at the university’s Greehey Academic and Research Campus. [12]
