2013 Life Science R & D Expenditures Ranking: 59th Ranked = $228,375,000 [1]

2014 NIH Funding: $61,977,163 [2]

Rutgers expends more than $430 million annually in research and development for life sciences. [3]

Rutgers receives nearly $400 million in government research funding annually. [4]

In the 2012–2013 academic year, Rutgers received $299.2 million from federal agencies for basic and applied research. [5]

RUCDR Infinite Biologics, the world’s largest university-based biorepository, received a $44.5 million Cooperative Agreement award from the National Institute of Mental Health to support its NIMH Center for Collaborative Genomics Research on Mental Disorders, which provides services to NIMH-funded scientists engaged in genomic research on mental disorders. [6]

A 5 year $26 million grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease was given to Rutger's Public Health Research Institute for the development of new antibodies. [7]

Rutgers University Cell & DNA Repositor, the world’s largest university-based biorepository, will be receiving up to $19 million in federal funding over the next five years. [8]

RUCDR Infinite Biologics, which recently completed an $11.4 million expansion and renovation, is located on the Busch Campus of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. [9]

RUCDR Infinite Biologics also received a $10 million federal grant to provide DNA extraction, genetic testing, DNA sequencing and repository services for more than 46,000 saliva samples, in support of NIAAA efforts to determine the genetic and environmental factors that lead to alcoholism and related conditions. [10]

A $10 million 2 year donation was made anonymously help researchers find treatments and run clinical trials for patients with rare and virulent cancers that don’t respond to standard therapies. [11]

The National Institute of General Medical Sciences awarded the Chemistry Department $2.5 million toward The Protein Structure Initiative Knowledgebase. [12]

Rutgers’ Human Genetics Institute of New Jersey recently received a $2.2 million grant for research into the genetics of autism spectrum disorder [13]

Rutgers is one of seven institutions in the country selected by the National Institutes of Health to receive BEST Award for 2014 — a $2 million grant designed to expose many of the university’s most promising biomedical sciences graduate trainees to career opportunities that go beyond the academic path that they have traditionally taken. [14]

Department of Genetics professor received $1.8 million NIH grant for nervous system research. [15]

Received $1.7 million from the NIH to create the Protein Structure Initiative (PSI) Knowledgebase. [16]

Waksman Institute of Microbiology awarded $1.2 million grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences for research on bacterial immunity and drug (antibiotic) resistance. [17]

Dr. Kim McKim of the Waksman Institute of Microbiology received a $1.2 million NIH grant for meiosis research. [18]

The NIH awarded Rutgers University $1 million to assemble a collection of optimized immunogens based on the complete set of human transcription factors. [19]

Rutgers University was awarder $500,000 for planning innovation park [20]

Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences supports more than 350 clinical trials a year. [21]
