NSF 2010 Ranking: 41st (total R&D expenditures in life sciences) =$281,807,000 [1]

NIH 2011 Ranking: 29th (Direct plus indirect costs but excluding R & D contracts and ARRA awards) = $188,463,149 [2]

Oregon Health & Science University received $392 million in total research funding, setting a record over previous years. $70 million was provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). [3]

The new Collaborative Life Sciences Building, a joint project of Oregon Health & Science University, Oregon State University and Portland State University, is currently under construction. The $295 million building will house the new OHSU Center for Spatial Systems Biomedicine, additional laboratory space for cutting edge research in basic and applied science, and clinical and educational space for the School of Dentistry.

Oregon Health & Science University received a five-year, $40 million grant that renewed funding from the National Institutes of Health to continue the university's efforts to translate scientific research into medical practice that will benefit the public. [4]

Oregon Health & Science University’s Center for Coastal Margin Observation & Prediction was awarded a $17 million renewal grant by the National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center to continue its research of biologically rich coastal margins for the next five years. [5]

The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism has funded a five-year, $21 million Integrative Neuroscience Initiative on Alcoholism grant to support a multi-site project led by Oregon Health & Science University. Oregon Health & Science University will receive $6.3 million over five years to fund projects in neuroscience laboratories on campus. [6]

Oregon Health & Science University’s Knight Cancer Institute received more than $7.75 million in grants to research breast cancer and develop new methods of leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma treatment. [7]

OHSU was one of 11 research institutions to receive funding from the American Medical Association’s Accelerating Change in Medical Education initiative. OHSU will receive $1 million in new funding. [8]

Oregon Health & Science University received a $5 million gift to develop nonsurgical treatment for malignant brain tumors. [9]

OHSU life science researcher Jonah Sacha, Ph.D. recently received $1 million in new funding for HIV research. [10]

Oregon Health and Science University recently received $245,115 in new NIH science research funding for a study of the effectiveness of the drugs Amiodarone and Lidocainetwo commonly used to restore heart function in cardiac arrest victims. [11]
